Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Cardiac Biology
Molecular Cardiology Research Institute
Tufts Medical Center
The Molecular Cardiology Research Institute, Tufts Medical Center, Boston, invites post-doctoral applications for a position in the translational research laboratory of Dr. Navin Kapur. The lab focuses on large and small animal models of acute and chronic heart failure, cardio-renal physiology, circulatory support device development, and cardioprotective mechanisms in the setting of acute myocardial infarction. The lab's recent work has focused on the hypothesis that mechanically unloading the heart and delaying coronary reperfusion limits infarct size. This concept known as the 'mechanical conditioning hypothesis' has the potential to alter the paradigm of acute heart attack therapy and reduce the burden of ischemic heart failure.
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow who has experience with porcine cardiovascular physiology experiments and analysis of physiological data. Prior experience with cardiovascular physiology and/or molecular biology is a plus. An ideal candidate is creative, dedicated, enjoys scientific discovery, and is able to work independently in a collaborative lab environment. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in all aspects of the research project, including experimental design, data collection and analysis, preparation of graphs and figures, and preparation of manuscripts. Prior achievement as demonstrated by publications/presentations is required and evidence for motivation and independence will be considered. Willingness to apply for additional fellowship grants is required.
Degree requirements: MD and/or PhD in cardiovascular physiology, biomedical engineering or a related discipline
Minimum experience: 2 years of research in a large animal laboratory
Outstanding written and oral communication skills
The Molecular Cardiology Research Institute (MCRI) is an internationally known institute with 10 principal investigators studying diverse topics of molecular medicine. The fellow will work closely with the principal investigator, their lab, and other members of this dynamic research institute. Please visit our website at: www.tuftsmedicalcenter.org/mcri.
