Post-doctoral Candidate, Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology, Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. The Brain Plasticity and Neuroimaging Laboratory at Boston University School of Medicine is seeking applicants for the position of Post-doctoral Candidate. The position will involve working on projects related to our studies investigating the impact of racism burden and resilience factors on neurocognitive outcomes in cognitively healthy older Black adults. The position will involve community outreach and recruitment, collection of MRI, neuropsychological, cardiovascular risk biomarkers, as well as data analysis, data presentation and write-up. Opportunities to write individual training grants and supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate student research assistants, including those from groups underrepresented in STEM fields, are available to the candidate. CORE DUTIES IN DETAIL:

  • Community outreach, recruitment, informed consent, and screening of research participants from the local community for eligibility

  • Collecting structural MRI and biomarker data

  • Analyzing structural MRI, neuropsychological and cognitive task data, biomarker data, and survey data

  • Statistical modeling

  • Perform or assist with routine procedures, such as maintaining the study database, 24-hr ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, biomarker processing, survey data review.

Required Skills

A PhD in psychology (e.g., health, social or cognitive psychology), cognitive or social neuroscience, public health or a related scientic field is required. Human subjects research experience, especially working with older adults and diverse populations and/or neurocognitive assessment in older adults is essential. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.Experience with some of the following is expected:

  • Structural MRI data analysis methods, such as Freesurfer

  • Neuropsychological assessment, such as NACC UDS or NIH Toolbox, or other cognitive assessments

  • Biomarkers for cardiovascular disease risk and/or allostatic load

  • Statistical modeling, such as Structural Equation Modeling

  • A basic understanding of barriers to human subjects research participation

  • Knowledge of social determinants of health

  • Ability to work comfortably with a diverse research team

  • Community engagement
