The F.M. Kirby Neurobiology Center at Boston Children’s Hospital seeks a Research Assistant (RA 2 if more than 1 year of relevant experience, or RA 1 if 0-1 year of experience) to work in the Animal Behavior and Physiology Core (AB&P) Facility servicing Boston Children's Hospital and scientists from the external community.
The Research Assistant will report to the AB&P Manager and the Director of Behavior and perform independent experiments as well as provide experimental support and training to graduate students, post-docs and PIs as they use the equipment and facilities in the Core. Other responsibilities will include maintenance & troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, maintaining awareness of animal health and potentially providing surgical services to users of the AB&P. This position will give an ideal background for someone considering a basic science PhD requiring in vivo skills or for someone looking to work, grow and develop a long term career within an, academic in vivo laboratory setting.
Requirements:
BSc in Pharmacology, Physiology or related field required.
Excellent rodent handling skills are essential and the applicant must have experience of mouse phenotyping and behavioral testing.
Some experience with dosing compounds using a broad range of routes of administration is preferred although all necessary techniques will be taught.
Familiarity with a computing language such as python and/or software programs such as Matlab will be welcome. For the right candidate there may be the opportunity to acquire surgical skills.
The applicant must have a good understanding of animal health, be able to work independently, flexibly and to appropriate timelines.
Minimum of two year commitment is required.
