56516BRTitle:Research Assistant IDepartment:NeurologyAutoReqId:56516BRStatus:Full-TimeStandard Hours per Week:40 Job Category:ResearchJob Posting Description:A full-time laboratory Research Assistant position is currently available with Dr. Christopher Yuskaitis, Co-Director of the Infantile Spasms Program and Instructor of Neurology at Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Yuskaitis’ research program focuses on genetic models of epilepsy associated with nutrient sensing in the brain utilizing rodent models. We are seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented individual to assist with basic science and translational research projects.
This Research Assistant I will be responsible for:
Generating, maintaining, and genotyping transgenic mouse lines.
Performing a variety of routine and specialized laboratory procedures, including DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and other relevant procedures, as necessary.
Planning and performing behavioral assays.
Processing of mouse brain tissue including immunostaining.
Performing molecular biology and biochemical assays on mouse samples.
Communicating regularly with lab members to discuss experimental results and to collaborate on completion of tasks.
Participating in laboratory meetings and presentations.
To qualify, you must have:
Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, biology, or related field.
Significant experience working with rodent models in a research environment.
Experience with animal husbandry and maintenance of transgenic rodent lines.
Experience with perfusion, cryosectioning, and processing of brain samples.
Immunostaining and microscopy experience is desired.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Flexibility for occasional rotating weekend work.
Preference will be given to highly-qualified applicants who can start as soon as possible. A two-year commitment is strongly preferred. There is an excellent track record of previous research assistants who have gone on to graduate and medical school.
