Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP) at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC)

The Department of Radiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), a Harvard Medical School affiliate, is seeking suitable candidates to serve as our Section Chief of Breast Imaging. Working within a collaborative, multi-specialist Breast Care Center ( , we are seeking an individual who will oversee and lead the research, education, and clinical operations. The breast imaging section chief will be responsible for providing timely, high-quality, and efficient imaging services, managing physician productivity, and serving as the radiology physician co-director of the integrated Breast Care Center.

The Division of Breast Imaging comprises five academic faculty members, two fellows, and a patient navigator, and interprets approximately 25,000 procedures per year. A separate community-based group covers studies from a network of ambulatory sites.

Hospital-based facilities include five digital mammography units with CAD capabilities (three with 3D Tomo), four full-featured ultrasound systems, a digital stereotactic system, prone and upright with 3D imaging capability and upgraded MRI systems. All hospital and community imaging sites are equipped with 3D digital equipment and linked via an enterprise-wide PACS system.

The division values its close, collaborative relationships with referring services, and its contributions to the breast care multidisciplinary conference are held in high regard by their clinical colleagues. Technology development and assessment, including contrast-enhanced mammography ( and translational MRI,, as well as economics and health services research, are recent and current research endeavors of the Division.

BIDMC ( is a major Harvard Medical School-affiliated ( teaching hospital with 649 beds, a Level 1 Trauma Center, and well-developed, multi-specialty clinical programs, including an NCI-designated Cancer Center. Candidates should be excited to work in an academic environment and committed to teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. The Department of Radiology includes a total of 44 residents and actively participates in the teaching of Harvard Medical School students.

Candidates for this position should have experience managing a clinical division or an equivalent level of operational experience, must be board-certified in diagnostic radiology, and must be eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Fellowship training in breast imaging is required. Candidates should be eligible for appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level at Harvard Medical School; salary and academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience .
