REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF SEL ACADEMIC/NON-ACADEMIC: INSTRUCTIONAL COACH POSITION OVERVIEW: The Social Emotional Academic Development (SEAD) Coach position resides in the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Instruction Team within the BPS Office of Health and Wellness (OHW), reporting to the Director of SEL. The SEAD Coach will play an essential role in implementing SEAD strategies across schools to create safe, healthy, joyful, anti-racist, culutrally and linguistically affirming environments that supports students’ social, emotional and academic development. The SEAD Coach will provide technical assistance, coaching and support the delivery of professional development to school leaders, teachers, and staff on social-emotional learning programming, including standards, curriculum, assessment, teaching practices, professional development, and school-level action plan development and implementation. The SEAD Coach will work to ensure that SEL is integrated into instruction and daily practices aligned with the district’s SEL strategic plan. The position requires knowledge of SEL competencies, research, curriculum, strategies, and learning and instruction frameworks. RESPONSIBILITIES: Support and build capacity of school leaders, educators and support staff Design and lead high-quality, engaging SEL professional learning and coaching opportunities for educators and school teams. Support school-level implementation of SEL by working with school leadership teams to develop school-wide plans that integrate SEL practices into staff meetings, school schedules and daily activities. Deliver individualized coaching support in classrooms to help teachers integrate SEL practices into the design of instruction and content Model and coach on the delivery of SEL lessons in the classroom using various coaching models, such as 1:1 coaching, peer coaching, and co-teaching. Encourage the development of SEL skills in adults through applied practice and opportunities to reflect in partners or small groups. Consult on parent communication regarding SEL. Develop and disseminate tools and resources to schools Aid in the implementation of policies and procedures that will support the delivery and sustainability of inclusive practices, social emotional skill development and support, and trauma-sensitive practices across all settings Develop and identify tools and resource to support implementation of school-wide SEL Produce and share materials to support family engagement around transformative SEL, school climate & culture Develop communication materials to support dissemination of resources Identify, connect, and build relationships with partners to bring district and school-level SEL resources, professional development, and supports Maintain, analyze, and report on data related to essential functions of the position Conduct school SEL assessment for selected schools with recommendations for action planning. Monitor and analyze SEL data to promote continuous improvement of coaching and SEL Monitor and advance SEL curriculum design and delivery across all settings, including embedded SEL instruction in general education classrooms and standalone SEL lessons delivered by teachers, specialists and support staff Build the capacity of school SEL teams, and SEL leads to use SEL assessment tools and data to make future decisions with the implementation of SEL Contribute as a team member and content provider Work collaboratively with school administrators, school staff and partners Work collaboratively across the Office, the Division of Academics, and other key offices to lend expertise and support on SEL competencies, skills and practices Engage in on-going professional learning Other related duties as assigned by the Director REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in education Educator License Demonstrated knowledge of SEL competencies, research, curriculum, strategies, and learning and instruction frameworks Demonstrated successful experience in presenting and leading professional development and large group discussions Demonstrated success working with teachers and/or administrators in a leadership and professional development capacity Demonstrated growth toward cultural literacy Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of relationship of Equity, Access and Opportunity Effective written and oral communication skills Demonstrated problem solving and organizational skills Ability to travel between school sites Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Powerpoint, and Excel; Google Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Drive Current authorization to work in the United States An understanding of and commitment to gain greater understanding of what is necessary for an urban school system to enjoy continuous improvement in an increasingly complex and competitive environment. A deeply held and unyielding belief in the overarching mission of public education. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: DESE Teacher License K-12 teaching experience Experience in an urban school system Familiarity with Boston and Boston Public Schools TERMS: BTU, Group I, plus additional compensation equal to 5% of the individual's annual base salary.
