Boston Public Schools [STIPEND OPPORTUNITY] English Learner (EL) Parent Info Session Teacher in Boston, Massachusetts

* This is a stipended position open for current BPS employees only. * The Office of Multilingual and Multicultural Education (OMME) is seeking exceptional elementary school teachers who teach in the following settings: SEI language specific, SEI multilingual, ESL, Dual Language, and HILF for SLIFE classrooms. We are seeking highly qualified and knowledgeable teachers to join us in presenting at a series of online events for parents of incoming students who are identified as English Learners. These events and workshops will be held in English with interpreters in the parent language. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers who desire to strengthen connections with BPS families. Sessions will be recorded to share with families. In BPS, the teachers and leaders are committed to the vision of high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the achievement gap among subgroups within the schools. Session schedule: Virtual Session 1: Thursday, May 4, and Virtual Session 2: Thursday, May 18, 2023, from 6 pm - 8 pm. Reports to: Director of EL Community Outreach or a designee on the OEL Family Resource Specialist team. RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepare in partnership with OMME to lead a 2-hour interactive online session for parents of incoming EL students to acclimate them to students' learning experience. Specifically, the instructor will: Share positive practices and strategies that can be used in the home to reinforce student learning. Allot time for questions and answers (Q&A) for parents who are new to the Boston Public Schools system to ask about expectations and outcomes for their students in the school year. Share out current classroom expectations, resources, materials, and curricula that may be used to provide parents for the school year. Collaborate with OMME Family Resource Specialist staff to plan logistics and identify materials and resources to be used during the 2-hour session. $500 stipend for the project includes planning, orientation, and being at presentation time. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree. Hold a valid Massachusetts Grade-level appropriate ESL License and/or SEI endorsement. Facilitation experience of adult learning sessions. Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment. Experience teaching ESL in Early Childhood/Elementary classroom settings Experience in teaching in an SEI, SLIFE, and/or Dual Language program Excellent knowledge of child development, family engagement, and the latest education theories and practices Qualifications__Preferred: Bilingual in any of the BPS major languages; Arabic, Cabo Verdean, Chinese, Haitian Creole, Spanish, or Vietnamese This position is a stipended position and is only open to current employees in BPS whose current job status allows them to participate in these opportunities.
