Boston Public Schools STIPEND OPPORTUNITY: February Acceleration Academy Site Coordinator (SY21-22) in Boston, Massachusetts

FTE: Stipend Position - $4000 for one(1) week, $8500 for two(2) weeks at the same site. REPORTS TO: School Leader ACADEMIC/NON-ACADEMIC: Academics Overview of Program: The Academics department is allocating funds to support Acceleration Academies to increase learning time and access to high-quality educators over school vacations. The Academies are 4-day academic programs outside of the traditional academic school year [February 22 - 25, 2022 (ELA Focus, Key Ideas and Details with Informational Text) and April 19 - 22, 2022 (Math Focus, specific domains associated with major work of the grade)]. The Academies are designed to accelerate student learning in small academically rich settings by leveraging engaging, standards-aligned lessons. Lessons build toward a project/problem-based performative task which provides students an opportunity to integrate their learning, strengthen academic skills and engage with complex text and tasks. The District will fund programs in regions 2-10, serving students in grades 3 through 10, focusing on prioritizing attendance for our English Learners, Students with Special Needs, and our ELSWDs. Position Overview: Oversee Acceleration Academy planning and programming. Supervise academic and enrichment teachers & paraprofessionals, and oversee operational management for programming during the 4-day vacation program, February 22 - 25, 2022. Work closely with BPS Central and Teachers to execute Acceleration Academy goals set forth by BPS academic and professional learning leaders and the school principal. BPS Principals and managerial staff may elect to be the academy site coordinator and receive the stipend if they will otherwise be able to meet their 223 working days (principals) or their S6500 days (Management). To do this, individuals will need to submit a detailed work plan outlining days worked before and after the acceleration academies that meet the 223 working days or S6500 threshold. Principals can also be the academy site coordinators without the stipend and count the time toward their 223 working days. Duties: Program Planning Manage Acceleration Academy staff hiring process; Participate in mandatory orientation event including professional learning for teachers, date TBD; Work with BPS Central & principal to coordinate materials and incentives purchasing; Oversee the submission of pre-program deliverables; Coordinate with afterschool programming for the afterschool program; Oversee operational budget; In coordination with administrators from participating schools, create class rosters and assign teachers to students; Create daily schedules for teachers and students; Participate in 5 hours of professional development before each session; Communicate with teachers before the Acceleration Academy weeks, providing schedules, class rosters, focus standards, etc.; Student & Family Oversee selected student registration and engagement efforts; Student lists must be submitted by early December 2021 (Date TBD) for February Academy and February 1, 2021, for April Academy; Coordinate family outreach and communication; Staffing, Supervision & Curriculum Work with BPS Central & principal to coordinate and execute on teacher recruitment and hiring; Work with BPS Central & principal to develop curriculum & coordinate enrichment programming; Attend and co-facilitate Professional Development for Academy staff before Academy start (dates TBD); Supervise academic & enrichment teachers. Operations and Program Management Serve as the point person for the following tasks: Oversee operational management of the program site; Oversee program budget and coordination of materials; Oversee site policies and student discipline code; Respond to parent and family communications and questions; Coordinate with food services/cafeteria staff for meal delivery. Coordinate with the custodial staff. Spearhead emergency protocol response (fire alarms, etc.). Oversee the following tasks: Record & monitor student attendance daily; Implement retention strategies; Organize day-to-day busing logistics; Ensure student and teacher participation in pre-and post-assessments; Place phone calls home to parents for students who don’t arrive and are not picked up on time; Track time of BPS teachers, complete time reporting forms for payroll. Wrap up Duties Oversee completion of student progress reports (using provided template) for each student; give a copy to the school principal and student’s family; Collect artifacts & compile materials inventory; Participate in mandatory feedback/debrief sessions. QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED: Principal, administrator, or certified academic teacher from Acceleration Academy school site; BPS Principals and Managerial staff may elect to be the academy site coordinator and receive the stipend if they will otherwise be able to meet their 223 working days (principals) or their S6500 days (Management). At least three years of professional teaching experience; Skilled in leadership and project management; Experience with developing & implementing curriculum, lesson plans; Experience teaching Students with Disabilities; Experience teaching students who are English Learners; Able and willing to supervise other BPS academic teachers and paraprofessionals in vacation setting (providing constructive feedback, developing collaborative effort); Preferred: Close relationships with selected student demographic; Current authorization to work in the United States; An understanding of and commitment to gain a greater understanding of what is necessary for an urban school system to enjoy the continuous improvement in an increasingly complex and competitive environment; A deeply held and unyielding belief in the overarching mission of public education. QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED: Bilingual Familiarity with Boston and Boston Public Schools COMPENSATION RANGE: $4000 for one(1) week, $8500 for two(2) weeks at the same site. Payment will be distributed once duties are complete.
