JOB TITLE: Acceleration Academy Site Coordinator: February Vacation 2024 FTE: Stipend Position - $3500 for the week (Plus $500 for Site Coordinators who lead both February and April Acceleration Academies) REPORTS TO: School Leader ACADEMIC/NON-ACADEMIC: Academic Overview of Program: During February vacation week or on 4 Saturdays in January and February (High Schools Only) selected BPS schools will have the opportunity to host Acceleration Academies for SY 2023-2024! The district-funded academies will allow students to participate in critical learning time based on targeted standards. The Office of Teaching and Learning is endorsing Acceleration Academies to increase learning time and access to high-quality learning prior to March MCAS testing. The academic team has developed a schedule to allow for project based learning activities with embedded time for intensive specialized instruction based on each school's performance data. The February Acceleration Academy will run for 4 days from February 20-23, 2024 or on 4 identified Saturdays (High Schools Only) in January and February. The Academies are designed to accelerate student learning in small academically rich settings by leveraging engaging, standards-aligned lessons. Lessons build toward a project/problem-based performative task which provides students an opportunity to integrate their learning, strengthen academic skills and engage with complex text. Overview of Acceleration Site Coordinator: Oversee Acceleration Academy planning and programming. Supervise academic and enrichment teachers, paraprofessionals and all program personnel. Oversee operational management for programming during the 4-day acceleration program, February 20 - 23, 2024. Work closely with BPS Central and Teachers to execute Acceleration Academy goals set forth by BPS academic and professional learning leaders and your school’s principal. The site coordinator must be an instructional leader and can supervise teachers in planning, delivering and evaluating theme-based lessons focused on content specific standards. Responsibilities Leadership Planning Manage Acceleration Academy staff hiring process. Work with your school’s instructional leadership team to recruit and oversee selected student registration and engagement efforts; Student lists must be submitted on time. In coordination with your school’s instructional leadership team, create class rosters and assign teachers to appropriate grade levels. Work with BPS Central and your school’s principal to coordinate and order materials and incentives. Oversee the submission of pre-program deliverables. Oversee operational budget. Create daily schedules for teachers and students. Professional Development & Training Participate in mandatory professional learning and a series of district-led coordinator meetings to execute operational and academic program goals. Communicate with teachers and conduct staff meetings before the Acceleration Academy week to provide schedules, materials and coordinated projects and lessons. Work with enrichment and classroom teachers to thoughtfully integrate academics and enrichment to address the program’s essential questions. Prepare classroom and instructional materials prior to Acceleration Academy start date so academic structures and routines begin on the first day of acceleration programming. Student & Family Engagement & Attendance Accountability Play a significant role in family outreach and communication; including making phone calls, sending letters and incentivizing students in order to recruit and maintain high participation rates. Daily phone calls to families if students do not attend and organizing a plan of action to get students to programming. Participate in attendance taking training sessions for accuracy of Acceleration Academy data. Instructional Leadership: Collaboration and Evaluation Supervise acceleration program staff including academic and enrichment teachers and paraprofessionals. Support teachers in delivering instruction to students, designed to accelerate student learning in a small academically rich setting. Collect evaluative student work and projects and record student performance as guided. Submit end of program deliverables. Participate in feedback/debrief activities including filling out an end of program survey. Arrival, Dismissal, Cafeteria Duties Oversee program logistical duties such as arrival, dismissal and cafeteria duty. This includes working with the FNS, transportation, ODA and all related departments to ensure programs operate smoothly. Operations and Program Management: Serve as the point person for the following tasks: Oversee operational management of the program site Oversee program budget and coordination of materials Oversee site policies and student discipline code Coordinate with food services/cafeteria staff for meal delivery Coordinate with the custodial staff Spearhead emergency protocol response (fire alarms, etc.) Organize day-to-day busing logistics Track time of BPS teachers, complete time reporting forms for payroll Schedule The Acceleration Academy day will run 5-6 hours daily. The site coordinator is required to be available for parent phone calls and office hours with students and staff as needed and as directed by the school leader. Please note program start and end times will vary by school. QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED: At least three years of professional teaching experience Skilled in leadership and project management Experience with developing & implementing curriculum, lesson plans Experience teaching Students with Disabilities Experience teaching students who are English Learners Able and willing to supervise other BPS academic teachers and paraprofessionals in vacation setting (providing constructive feedback, developing collaborative effort) Current authorization to work in the United States An understanding of and commitment to gain a greater understanding of what is necessary for an urban school system to enjoy the continuous improvement in an increasingly complex environment A deeply held and unyielding belief in the overarching mission of public education.
