THIS IS A LONG-TERM SUB POSITION that is expected to start on 03/28/2025 and end on 05/09/2025. Please note that all substitute teachers are hired as per diem subs, even when placed in long-term assignments. All substitutes begin at the per diem rate of pay. T he Boston Arts Academy seeks an exceptional Theatre Teacher who is highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners and leaders. This candidate will cultivate a safe environment for students to achieve their musical and creative potential and ensure that each Boston Arts Academy student has an exceptional musical education. This candidate will be responsible for creating dynamic lessons and learning experiences to ensure their students are challenged and primed for growth. Successful candidates will have a strong technical theater background with expertise in lighting, rigging, audio and stage crew with young tech students.
Responsibilities:
Teach 9th and 10th grade lighting labs
Mentor 11 and 12th-grade design students who design shows.
Ability to program audio and soundboards
Take daily attendance for classes
Post grades every two weeks and end of term
Communicate with parents/guardians when necessary
Work with theater department chair to manage technical theater needs and schedule
Assist in all aspects of tech production for Music, Dance and Theatre performance
Assist staff with any technical needs related to using the theaters for assemblies, meetings etc.
Qualifications - Required
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by the Boston Public Schools as outlined above.
Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
Strong background in theatre production, especially lighting and technical theatre
Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve technical issues.
Strong organizational skills, especially managing schedules and calendars
Training in Genie, Fly/Rigging
Knowledge of Ion Gio light board- programming experience
Experience working with high school students
Ability to work as a local in Boston, MA.
Qualifications - Preferred
Experience with sound audio production
Knowledge of Yamaha Q5 soundboard programming
Genie Certification
Experience teaching in urban schools.
