Boston University TRAINING GRANT SPECIALIST, School of Medicine, Dean's Office in BOSTON, Massachusetts

The Training Grant Specialist initiates and oversees training grant and development support, working closely with faculty and administration across schools at Boston University to promote new interdisciplinary research training programs. The Training Grant Specialist will be a key contributor for sustaining existing service structures, aiding faculty and IT in the development of a centralized Training grant database, and providing assistance during proposal cycles with a large number of grant applications. This position will need a solid understanding of higher education at the graduate and post-graduate level, or have worked in an academic setting where students schooling and activities were evaluated. This position will require the handling of confidential data.

  • This position will have primary responsibility for training grant operations, including coordinating data acquisition for pre-award, reporting, and renewals; data collection; data issue identification/resolution; and production of data tables for grant proposals, the accuracy and completeness of which are critical for the success of grant proposals.

  • This position will provide direct guidance to proposal teams and participating faculty and administrators regarding proposal data needs, help develop training grant proposal and administration aids, work with the PDO Director and IT to develop new internal tools and maintenance of a database for training grant data and participate in support of active training grants and special projects as needed.

  • Interpret and document proposal requirements for investigators and create timeline and action plan for PI to ensure submission will be compliant with University submission policy.

  • Coordinate institutional approvals and submission information at BU and across partner institutions, ensuring compliance with federal and university policy.

  • Interface with sponsor application systems and coordinate appropriate account access for PIs.

  • Assist Director and other SOM leadership in tracking and interpreting submission & funding data, interpreting trends and identifying areas for improvement, in regards to targeting funding & other strategic planning needs. Use data and insights to develop and implement projects, workshops, process changes under direction of Director and Associate Director.

The Training Grant Specialist will report to the Director of Proposal Development, and work in collaboration with the Associate Provost and Dean of Graduate Medical Sciences, the Associate Dean for Research, the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, as well as the Office for Research Compliance and the Office of Sponsored Programs as required. This position will also interact with faculty and staff across and outside the BU campus.

Required Skills
