Boston Public Schools Turnaround: Assistant Head of School (BASAS 10B) (SY21-22) in Boston, Massachusetts

*This school has been designated as a Level 4 School by the State of Massachusetts. This designation allows districts to utilize the new tools granted in the landmark education reform law that was passed in 2010 to provide additional services for these schools. Some of these tools will allow for extended time and extra compensation where needed. Job Title: Assistant Head of School Reports to: Principal/Head of School Reports to: Principal/Headmaster Responsibilities: Assists in the supervision of all staff and assumes the duties of the Principal/Headmaster when he/she is not on the premises. Implements the Code of Discipline and maintains the safety and security of the building and grounds. Supervises the arrival and departure of students; supervises the behavior of students in the common areas of the building and grounds. Seeks funding to enhance the cultural and academic programs at the school. Uses data to guide academic goals to assist the Principal/Headmaster in the preparation of Whole School Improvement document. Assists the Principal/Headmaster in his/her managerial duties including: Supervises maintenance of the building and grounds Coordinates purchases and delivery of supplies and equipment Supervises maintenance of personnel and student records Prepares reports and statistics of school operations Prepares and maintains the master schedule within planning parameters established by Principal Implements the attendance policy g. Serves as liaison between the school and the transportation providers. Supervises substitute teachers, including arranging for coverage, ensuring that substitute folders are up to date and available for monitoring and evaluating performance. Assists the Principal/Headmaster in planning activities including coordinating curriculum, instruction, student's, volunteers and parent activities, and student support services. Engages the wider community to support school goals. Writes evaluations for all assigned teachers and support staff. Supports specific content departments and grade level teams, responsible for creating meeting agendas and facilitating meetings. Attends certain school activities that take place after school or on Saturdays including parent meetings, sporting events and community events. Attends August Leadership Institute and participates in August trainings for staff and 9th grade orientation. Assumes other related duties as requested by the Principal/Headmaster. Qualifications Required: 1. Masters Degree in Education or related field. 2. Three (3) years experience successful teaching experience 3. Massachusetts license for School Principal/Assistant Principal (grades specific). 4. Demonstrated leadership qualities, interpersonal skills and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators and parents. 5. Ability to establish a multi-cultural atmosphere that enhances individual growth and promotes a positive self-image. 6. Experience with budget preparation and implementation. 7. Advanced technology skills 8. Experience with full process involved in development and implementation of master schedule. Preferred: 1. Teaching experience in a 7-12 educational setting in a core content area. 2. Experience as a school administrator.
