Boston Public Schools Turnaround: School to Career - Business and Art Entrepreneurship Instructor Gr. 9-12 (SY24-25) in Boston, Massachusetts

*This school has been designated as a Level 4 or 5 School by the State of Massachusetts. This designation allows districts to utilize the new tools granted in the landmark education reform law that was passed in 2010 to provide additional services for these schools. Some of these tools will allow for extended time and extra compensation where needed. Business and Art Entrepreneurship Instructor Full- time (1.0 FTE) Job Description Boston Public Schools seeks a dynamic Business School to Career Teacher who is highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners and leaders. About Room 13: Room 13 is a student-run, non-profit art studio that provides students with the opportunity and resources to cultivate their artistic and entrepreneurial ideas and interests. Room 13 focuses on fostering the potential of every young person to be a leader, creator, and innovator through the cultivation of deep ideas, dialogue, and inquiry. By leveraging opportunities provided by the Artist-in-Residence and other community arts partners, students are able to explore real-world connections. Room 13 also provides concrete opportunities for students to gain hands-on leadership and entrepreneurial experience. Through the selection of a student Board of Directors, students make decisions about Room 13's management and direction. REPORTS TO: Headmaster or Designee RESPONSIBILITIES: The Business School to Career Teacher will be comfortable using classroom and lab instruction to support students to gain proficiency in the safety and all industry-related standards. The School to Career Program will incorporate interdisciplinary, project-based learning, portfolio defense and a work based learning component. RESPONSIBILITIES: Creatively provide an interdisciplinary course of study that incorporates state curricular frameworks Deliver content through discrete instruction, demonstration, practice, and projects Instruct students in safety and all industry related curriculum materials Instruct students in all aspects of the industry Maintain records as required by the school, district, or state Build and maintain partnerships that assist in getting students into authentic learning experiences Participate in team meetings /curriculum development/and professional development activities that support student achievement and program and school functioning Share in administrative duties as determined by the Headmaster or designee Perform other related duties as requested by Headmaster QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED: Hold a valid Massachusetts Teaching License for appropriate content and grade levels. Must have experience working with Design and Visual Communications related employer Education: Hold a Bachelors degree. Meet all state and federal guidelines in order to be fully licensed and "Highly Qualified" according to NCLB. Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by the Boston Public Schools as outlined above. Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment. QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED: Prior teaching experience in a career and technical education environment Bachelor’s Degree in subject matter related to Design and Visual Communications Experience working with urban youth Industry certification such as Adobe, etc OSHA 10 certification or willingness to be certified Ability to provide teacher leadership to grow and develop the Design and Visual Communications program Ability to develop relationships with external industry partners, community agencies, students and families BPS values linguistic diversity and believes that candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom, school, and district culture and diversity. BPS is particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in one of BPS' official languages:Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali. In order to best serve all students, BPS prefers all core content teachers to be certified in their subject area and one or both of the following: Moderate Disabilities, English as a Second Language (at the appropriate grade level(s)).
