Franciscan Hospital for Children Clinical Educator in Brighton, Massachusetts
SUMMARY: The Clinical Educator for respiratory therapy supports the development of the bedside therapists, and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidenced based practice. The clinical educator supports staff through staff development as an educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent, and leader. The clinical educator works and collaborates with the other leaders in the RT department to develop the educational process to include: assessment, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of competency assessment, continuing education and leadership development. The clinical educator will work with clinical staff to enhance their practice, foster critical thinking skills and promote a professional, responsible, accountable respiratory therapy practice
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provides educational activities are congruent with Franciscan Children's mission, goals, values, priorities, and resources.
Develops, plans and implements orientation plan for all new staff
Develops all competencies and is responsible to insure all are complete and renewed on a regular basis
Works in conjunction with the RT leadership team and Director of Nursing (DON) to identify needs and updates in respiratory therapy that are dynamic, evidenced based and responsive to the environment of care.
Serves as a clinical expert in respiratory therapy
Collaborates on a regular basis with the RT leadership team and DON to develop, coordinate and evaluate orientation program
Works collaboratively with the RT leadership team to identify, educate and continuously develop RT preceptors
Collaborates with RT leadership to recruit and retain respiratory therapists
Responsible to complete schedule in collaboration with RT leadership to ensure adequate staffing
Through individual coaching encourages staff development to attain and exceed their predicted capacities and greatest potential
Provides educational activities that contribute to professional development from novice to expert based on learning needs of staff using adult learning principles and a sound clinical respiratory therapy knowledge base
Utilizes evidence based research to identify strategies for improving professional development activities and patient outcomes.
Educates staff on new products and participates on the hospital wide products committee
Focuses on development of critical thinking skills by teaching and encouraging staff to problem solve independently and with the interdisciplinary team
Collaborates with RT leadership and DON to ensure staff is supported in clinical practice and individual professional goals are met. (i.e. charge/precepting)
Coordinates with schools RT students, schedules and structure of rotation
Works clinically at the bedside on a routine basis to stay engaged in current practice
Collaborates with RT leadership and DON on department vision and annual goals
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree required, Masters degree in RT / or related field is preferred
Certification in CPR and PALS
Demonstrated interest in continuing education, professional development and RT research
Minimum of 5 years Pediatric experience
