General Statement of Duties: Provide information, support and services for parents/care givers of the Parent Information Network (PIN) to understand the entitlements, and options of the special education process.

Available benefits are based on position and scheduled hours.
Provide educational consultation and support for Parent Information Network (PIN) parents/ caregivers and staff regarding special education services
Empower parents/caregivers with information and support to become informed advocates for their own families
Train and educate parents/caregivers and staff regarding State and Federal regulations for special education laws
Develop and facilitate trainings on educational topics for parents, staff and professionals
Create posters, slide shows, brochures and presentations.
Meet with PIN staff and parents to review records and make recommendations as needed
Attend school meetings as assigned
Collaborate with Parents of Transitional Aged Youth (PTAY) Coordinator in developing educational trainings for parents
Collaborate with the Department of Mental Health (DMH), associated vendors, Mass Rehab, schools and vocational agencies regarding educational and vocational related issues
Develop and upkeep a Parent Resource Guide and a Directory of liaisons, advocates and lawyers
Consult with PIN’s Educational Consultant as needed
Contribute to the PIN E-Newsletter as assigned
Maintain accurate records, prepare reports and meet deadlines
Complete activity sheets and other documentation as required and submit reports in a clear concise and timely manner.
Execute duties to reflect reasonable safety standards. Standard/universal precautions must be utilized and training obtained in areas that constitute risk.
Perform other related work duties as needed or as assigned by supervisor.
Must have high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three years of experience in the human service field, Associates Degree or higher preferred.
Recipient of trainings by either the Federation of Special Needs or Wright’s Law
At least 3 years of experience in supporting families in an educational setting. At least 3 years experience advocating for the needs of families with children with mental health challenges at IEP, Schools and Wraparound meetings
Demonstrated understanding of the impact of mental health on learning required
Ability and experience in developing a curriculum for training and workshops
Computer Literacy; including intermediate level skills in Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, required
Organizational and time management skills essential
Dependable, self-motivated, creative and innovative person able to thrive in a fast-paced, loosely structured environment.
Preference given to parents of children who have raised or raising children with behavioral, emotional or mental health challenges
