Brockton Hospital Nurse Educator - OR in Brockton, Massachusetts

Position Summary:

The Clinical Nurse Educator will function as a member of the Staff Education and Development team. This individual will collaborate with the Director of Staff Education and Nurse Managers to provide orientation, education and support for the clinical staff. This individual will represent administration in the overall management of the hospital, in the absence of nursing administration and managers. They will participate as a member of the Nursing Management team. Functions independently within established role and established policies and procedures. Refers unusual problems or problems lacking clear precedent to the Director of Staff Education, appropriate Nurse Manager and/or Chief Nursing Officer. Provides supervision to clinical staff in the provision of patient care.

This is a full-time 40hour/ week position.

Responsibilities:

  • Creates educational programs for nurses, clinical care assistants and unit secretaries to increase staff knowledge and improve quality of care.

  • Learns and maintains skill in use of all presentation equipment including projectors, power point, Cloud-based video conferencing platforms i.e. Zoom, Microsoft Teams, DVD, etc.

  • Participates and contributes to Nursing Management meetings to articulate educational needs in management decision making.

  • Collaborates with the Nurse Managers in developing staff to enhance their professional and educational growth and to assist in the follow-up of staff or unit - specific issues or concerns.

  • Problem-solves and takes action independently as issues and concerns are identified.

  • Provides input to the Nurse Managers for performance reviews as requested.

  • Coordinates and provides quality resuscitation course programs for hospital associates and outside candidates.

  • Participates in hospital-wide and nursing department committees, task forces and groups.

  • Provides department wide and/or unit-specific education in support of strategic initiatives and/or based on identified need.

  • Schedules appropriate clinical experience during orientation according to the individuals and/or unit's needs.

  • Provides clinical supervision and evaluates each nursing orienteer to ensure safe medication administration and re-supervises as necessary.

  • Maintains records of orientation and performance.

  • Participates in preparing content and objectives for educational offerings to be submitted to the appropriate review board as part of the application process for contact hours for nurses.

  • Maintains clinical expertise to serve as a resource and role model for associates.

  • Promotes new concepts and trends in nursing.

  • Works within budget restraints while providing quality educational programs to staff.

  • Provides a dynamic educational experience for staff and continues to develop presentation style and skill.

  • Relates effectively with other members of the management team. Performs other duties as assigned

    BASIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/APTITUDE/EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Must be able to reasonably make appropriate judgment in communications and actions with patients, physicians, other associates, outside agencies, and vendors.

    Education/Experience/Licenses/Technical/Other:

  • Education: BSN required; Masters of Science in Nursing, preferred. Master’s Degree in related field may be considered.

  • Experience (Type & Length): Minimum of 5 years in nursing required. Recent experience as an OR educator for all service lines.

  • Certification/Licensure: Current BLS and ACLS required. PALS preferred. Must be a BLS and ACLS provider, BLS instructor and/or AHA instructor, according to areas assigned. Certification of CNOR required. Must be licensed to practice Nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

  • Software/Hardware: Meditech experience preferred; Microsoft Office skills required. Presentation experience required

  • Other: Excellent communication and teaching skills.
