Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Computer Simulation Developer in Brookline, Massachusetts

We are seeking a highly skilled Simulation Analyst to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Associate Director, Health Systems Improvement this role will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and analyzing simulation models that support various business processes such as patient flow, staff and space utilization, projected growth impacts for decision-making across the organization in partnership with the Health Systems Improvement team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mathematical modeling, simulation techniques, and data analysis, along with excellent problem-solving abilities and a keen attention to detail.

This is a benefit eligible, time limited position with an expected end date of March 2027.

This position's work location is fully remote with occasional time on-campus in Brookline, MA. The selected candidate may only work remotely from a New England state (ME, VT, NH, MA, CT, RI).

  • Develop simulation models to represent complex systems, processes, and scenarios.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and define simulation objectives.

  • Design scenarios and analyze simulation results to provide insights and recommendations for process improvement and decision-making.

  • Validate and calibrate simulation models using real-world data and performance metrics.

  • Maintain and update existing simulation models to reflect changes in business processes, technology, or environmental factors.

  • Conduct sensitivity analyses and scenario planning to assess the impact of different variables and uncertainties on system performance.

  • Communicate findings and recommendations effectively to stakeholders through reports, presentations, and visualizations.

  • Stay current with advancements in simulation methodologies, tools, and technologies to drive continuous improvement and innovation.

  • Provide instruction, supervision, and guidance on the use of simulation models and exercises.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field required.

  • 2 years experience in developing and implementing simulation models using software such as FlexSim, Simio, Arena, or similar tools required.

  • In-depth understanding of simulation and modeling methodologies, including discrete-event simulation (DES), agent-based modeling (ABM), system dynamics (SD) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

  • Familiarity with healthcare operations, workflows, and patient safety principles to align simulations with organizational objectives preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong knowledge of statistical analysis, optimization techniques, and sensitivity analysis to validate and refine models.

  • Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and advanced computational techniques to improve model efficiency.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies in simulation, including AI and machine learning integrations.

  • Proficiency in documenting and explaining necessary parameters, code, and build processes to facilitate information sharing and collaboration with stakeholders.

  • Strong technical writing skills for documenting simulation methodologies, results, and actionable insights.

  • Skilled in designing and executing sensitivity analyses and "what-if" scenarios to support decision-making.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.

  • Project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to gather requirements and deliver actionable insights.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities to interpret complex data and address ambiguous challenges systematically.

  • Proficiency in designing and executing simulation models to address organizational challenges and forecast outcomes.

  • Capacity to synthesize large datasets and translate raw data into meaningful insights for process improvement.
