The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA dedicated to excellence in education. We are seeking  a full time 10-month position  to cover a sabbatical leave for the 24-25 academic year reporting to the Upper and Lower Division Heads. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in theater and be passionate about the subject. Responsibilities

 

  • Design, plan, and implement student-centered lessons which demonstrate a deep understanding of the academic discipline, curriculum, instruction, child development, and best practices, aligned with the goals and mission of The Park School

  • Teach a minimum of two sections of theater arts electives to students in grades 6-8

  • Direct a minimum of two after school productions with students in grades 5-8

  • Meet students at their developmental level  and guide students in maintaining standards of classroom behavior

  • Differentiate instruction to ensure the growth and development of all students

  • Maintain records of individual student progress and achievement

  • Participate in the school community, including faculty and committee work, school duties, and activities such as clubs and assemblies 

  • Establish and implement expectations for student safety and conduct; and procedures and routines, consistent with School policies

  • Meaningfully integrate technologies into class lessons, for online learning as well as in school learning

  • Assess  and guide student performance and engagement, including academics, behavior, and social-emotional needs, while communicating directly with students, colleagues, and families both formally and informally when necessary

  • Collaborate with all Park School employees as appropriate

  • Participate in and contribute to an adult learning community by engaging in meetings, discussions, committees, task forces, and professional development. 

  • Complete administrative tasks and coverage duties as assigned (student supervision, attendance, reporting, documenting curriculum, etc.)

  • Meet expectations as defined by the Park School Employee Essential Expectations

     

    Qualifications

     

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.  Master’s Degree preferred.

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of teaching experience 

  • Strong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and other adults

  • Strong communication skills, including experience in writing student comments and other school-related documents

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in teaching and learning & experience in working in a culturally diverse community. 

  • Motivation for and interest in professional development

  • Ability to think independently and collaborate  in a team environment

  • Skill in differentiating instruction

  • ​​High integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality

  • Maintain focus and adaptability  in an energetic and, at times, loud environment

  • Effectively interpret, navigate, mediate, and resolve conflict with students and families in a timely manner. 

  • The ability to hold meetings in person and via supported video conference tools (i.e. Zoom or Google Meet)

  • Proficient or the ability to learn Google tools and other applications as adopted by the school, such as Veracross, SchoolPass, Atlas etc. 

    Physical Requirements: 

  • The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 30 minute periods of time.

  • The ability to traverse on and across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.).

  • The ability to lead, supervise and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas),  including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency. 

  • The ability to position oneself  (e.g.,  stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down) in order to support students. 

  • The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions.

  • The ability to lift and hold 15  lbs overhead. 

  • The ability to occasionally  transport (e.g., move or drag)  25 lbs 

  • The ability to maintain focus and composure in a n energetic and, at times, loud environment
