The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA dedicated to excellence in education. The Park School is seeking substitute teachers for the rest of the 2021-22 academic year. This full-time role will require that the hours of 7:30 am to 3:30 pm be dedicated to remaining available for both planned and unplanned teacher absences for class and duties where needed. This position reports to the Lower Division and/or Upper Division Heads. Permanent substitute teachers are expected to review class plans as far ahead as possible in order to ensure a seamless transition for the students. Permanent substitute teachers are also available to lend an extra set of hands to any teachers in need of support throughout the day.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Available on campus Monday through Friday from 7:30 am-3:30 pm to fulfill any predetermined or as-needed coverage requirements

  • Whenever possible, partner with teachers to understand and implement lesson plans

  • Engage with students in grades Pre-K to 8 in a way that is enthusiastic, energetic and student-centered

  • Guide students in their social-emotional development, maintaining expectations and support for positive and productive student behavior

  • Collaborate with the Director of Equity & Inclusion to keep multiculturalism and diversity as a priority in their work with students

  • Respectfully engage with a diverse community and ensure that diversity, equity, and inclusion is emphasized as a core value of the classroom and the School

  • Establish and maintain a healthy and trusting learning environment, fostering nurturing relationships with students

  • Attend school-wide and division-specific meetings


  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Experience teaching elementary-aged children

  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to working in a culturally diverse community

  • E ffective and respectful class management skills

  • An understanding of the social/emotional development of children
