Associate Chief Medical Officer of Quality and Safety is a key leadership role for enhancing the quality of care within our organization. As a member of the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center (LHMC) CMO leadership team, the ACMO/Quality and Safety is responsible for the medical leadership of the quality and safety programs, as well as the patient experience at LHMC. The ACMO will have accountability for understanding, coordinating and measuring internal and external quality and safety requirements and use data and technology to drive performance.
The ACMO is a physician leader who will develop a culture of ownership for quality, safety and experience throughout the organization, leading and aligning LHMC around quality initiatives to reduce unnecessary variations in care and to become a high reliability organization.
The ACMO will be the dyad partner of the Executive Director for Quality/Safety and help guide and manage a high-performing leadership team, creating a culture of performance and accountability and establishing high-trust partnerships with key stakeholders to achieve results.
This position will have up to 0.5 clinical FTE offset. Remaining time will be clinically based in any specialty.
Job Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities including but not limited to:
Responsible for working with Beth Israel Lahey Health leadership (BILH) leadership, LHMC leadership and LHMC colleagues to develop and implement the organizational quality plan that will result in achieving desired metrics/outcomes.
Work collaboratively across the enterprise and externally to enhance our care quality and patient safety, patient experience so LHMC can deliver on its promise of caring for our patients, their loved ones, and each other.
Build and help lead a multidisciplinary quality and safety organization that transcends existing units and reinforces a consistent approach to quality, safety and experience.
Help develop and implement a data-driven Quality Management Program leveraging Vizient, Epic and other tools.
Support the development and adoption of an organization-wide Culture of Safety.
Support the development and adoption of a patient-centered organization.
Reviews all serious incidents, complaints, occurrences, and unexpected deaths. Supports the reporting of appropriate cases to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Board of Medicine.
Participates in Root Cause Analyses of Sentinel Events.
Works with the regulatory affairs team to ensure compliance with regulatory standards related to clinical care (CMS, The Joint Commission, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health)
Works collaboratively with senior leadership team and quality/safety to represent LHMC to external organizations and agencies on matters related to quality and safety, medical care and patient outcomes, including patient satisfaction.
Regularly reports on status of patient outcomes including patient satisfaction and quality and safety matters to the clinical leaders, Medical Executive Committee and the LHMC Board of Trustees Quality and Safety Committee.
Works with LHMC and BILH to help oversee the organizational Infection Control program.
Work with the CMO, Chief Clinical Officer and the Executive Director of Quality and Patient Safety / Risk Management to support the organizational Risk Management program.
Works with Senior Program Manager of Performance Excellence to provide medical leadership to the organizational Patient Experience programs.
Member of Sentinel Event Decision Group (SEDG) and Committee for Practitioner Excellence (CPE)
Co-chairs the Quality and Safety Committee
Incorporates LHMC Mission Statement and Values into daily activities.
Complies with all LHMC Policies.
Complies with behavioral expectations of BILH and LHMC.
Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients.
Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment.

Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education.
Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.
