Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC), part of Beth Israel Lahey Health, is seeking a Chair to lead its Department of Radiology. Candidates should have excellent management and interpersonal skills that will allow them to lead, grow and develop a department of highly skilled clinicians, researchers and support staff, along with a continued interest in the practice and advancement of Radiology. The field of radiology stands on the forefront of medical innovation from AI-powered diagnostics to technological advancements in imaging modalities. Our department benefits from a leader who has some technical savvy in this realm. A chair provides expertise and input into equipment planning /selection, information systems development/implementation (i.e. electronic health record, PACS, and other operational systems).
The Department of Radiology at LHMC is comprised of more than 40 board certified radiologist staff physicians, 7 advanced practice professionals, and over 200 non-provider clinical staff with a total workforce of above 450. The Department has 9 subspecialty sections and a Division of Neurointerventional Radiology.
The department is active in medical student education, has a Radiology Training Program with 25 residents as well as advanced fellows in breast imaging, interventional radiology, and neuro-interventional radiology. The department partners with technologist training programs to enhance the pipeline for the department. The Department has an active research program and a nationally recognized peer learning program. The Department is nationally renowned as the largest lung cancer screening program in the nation and has shared programmatic materials with over 1000 sites on 5 continents.
Role of the Department Chair
As a physician leader in a multi-specialty group practice, the Chair of the Department of Radiology works with other leaders to ensure that Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC) provides outstanding medical care to its patients while serving as a resource for healthcare excellence for the wider community. The Chair leads by example, inspires trust with high emotional intelligence, promotes collegial dialogue and collaborates in planning and problem solving in an environment that values diversity and empowers all colleagues to develop their talents and do their best work.
The Chair’s scope of responsibility includes physician recruitment and career development, management of individual physician, division, and department performance, development of new initiatives, development and oversight of process improvement plans, resource allocation within the department, and oversight of day-to-day department operations.
The Chair contributes clinical expertise in on-going collaboration with all departments and divisions to achieve goals in clinical practice, research, education and administration. The Chair collaborates with the Executive Director in the development and execution of the department’s strategic vision and day-to-day operations.
Applicants must be board certified in Radiology. A strong academic background that warrants appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor is desirable. Additionally, management with strong medical operational expertise and leadership training is desired. The incumbent will lead in the support of a strong culture of respect and belonging and work on the development and implementation of the BILH's ongoing diversity programs.
