  • Doctoral degree preferred with demonstrated proficiency in research

  • Significant industry experience and solid understanding of a range of computational & analytics research topics as well as the practical needs of industry

  • Intellectual versatility to work across disciplines and understand a variety of research methods.

  • Specialized domain knowledge and practice experience: data modeling, machine learning and/or business analytics

  • Experience in mentoring students and/or advising thesis projects

  • Ability to work with graduate students in a broad age range with tact and diplomacy, while maintaining academic standards of the program.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational ability and attention to detail required.

  • Passion for professional education and student success

  • Familiarity with Harvard is a plus

Additional Information:The Division of Continuing Education (DCE) comprises several entities including the Harvard Extension School, the Harvard Summer School, the Harvard Professional Development Programs and the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement. For more than a century, Harvard Extension School has made Harvard faculty and teaching accessible to a diverse community of local, national, and international students. Harvard Extension School enrolls approximately 13,000 students per year in approximately 65 liberal arts and professional fields. More than 650 open enrollment online and classroom courses are offered at affordable prices to our communities across the world. Harvard Summer School offers approximately 300 courses on the Harvard Campus to 6,000 secondary school, college and adult learners and more than 30 international study abroad programs for up to 600 students each summer. The Division also includes the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement with approximately 550 active members and Harvard Professional Development Programs offering over 80 noncredit programs annually.

Department:ALM - Division of Continuing EducationPre-Employment Screening:Education, IdentitySchedule:Typical Office Hours M-F 9-5Job Function:Faculty & Student Services Duties & Responsibilities:The ALM Information Technology Programs of Division of Continuing Education seeks a Senior Research Advisor. The successful candidate will play a role in delivering a high quality research and learning experience for students in ALM Information Technology, including the new data science degree program. Reporting to the Director of Information Technology programs, the successful candidate will be responsible for advising student research, supporting industry projects, and helping prepare students for leadership roles in the rapidly evolving field of information technology. The position’s responsibilities and required qualifications can be summarized as follows:

Duties & Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of Information Technology Programs, the position will provide support and contribute to the ALM Information Technology programs located in the Harvard Extension School. The successful candidate will:

  • Advise capstone, thesis or independent research students on a weekly basis on the preparation of capstone /thesis research.

  • Advise students individually (in person, via telephone, and by email/web conferencing), schedules advising meetings, review student capstone proposals and manuscripts, help students develop a suitable topic and guide students through the project.

  • Help evaluate industry projects to ensure they are suitable for capstone research.

  • Together with the Director, match students with prospective capstone or thesis projects.

  • Provide 2 capstone or thesis tutorials in the programs per year.

  • Take part in Extension School activities relevant to the function.
