Position Description

Harvard Divinity School seeks to appoint an adjunct instructor/lecturer in Advanced Greek to teach one course during the Fall Semester 2024 (from September 1, 2024 to January 31, 2025).

Candidates will be expected to teach a wide range of Greek authors belonging to the Late Antique period, with specific focus on early Jewish and Christian texts that might be of particular interest for students working on early Judaism, the New Testament, early Christianity, and the early Byzantine period. Candidates should demonstrate experience in scholarly writing and teaching on authors such as Philo, Clement of Alexandria, Origen, and Eusebius of Caesarea.

The course must be open and accessible to the Divinity School’s diverse and multi-religious student body. The appointment title will depend on the finalist’s qualifications.

Basic Qualifications

Applicants should demonstrate the following qualifications:

(1) Completed advanced degree (PhD or ABD candidates preferred)

(2) Prior experience teaching at the graduate level

(3) Sensibility to a multi-religious, diverse student body.

Publications in the field are desirable, though not required.
