Excellent analytic, written, and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to relate to individuals at all levels. Ability to manage teams across academic disciplines and institutions as well as problem solving through the creation of ad hoc teams. Commitment to developing and maintaining diverse and effective teams. Ability to thrive in a dynamic, changing environment.

Additional Information: Critical Competencies for Success

  • Previous responsibility for management operations and finance/budgeting are very important in this role, both in equal measures. Managing and budgeting experience in a multi-tier organization strongly preferred.

  • Previous responsibility for supervisory/HR operations is crucial.

  • Experience in communication, both verbal and written, in multi-disciplinary multi-tier settings, and previous responsibility for communications up and down an organization.

  • Analytical skills enabling a clear understanding of the different parts of a complex organization and how they intersect with each other, and the capacity to foresee how these different units may work together in pursuit of shared goals.

  • Creativity, flexibility and a problem-solving mindset. The ability and desire to work with a degree of ambiguity and the ability to find solutions despite the ambiguity.

  • Appreciation for and understanding of the substantive, qualitative and quantitative nature of the A&H Division. This will be essential to success in serving as administrative leader of the Division.

Department:Arts and Humanities DivisionPre-Employment Screening:Credit, Criminal, Education, IdentityJob Function:General Administration Job-Specific Responsibilities: The Administrative Dean for the Arts and Humanities in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) is the chief administrator of the Division of Arts and Humanities (A&H). Responsibilities include: s upporting and implementing the Divisional Dean's priorities by leveraging financial and operational resources available to the Division; working closely with and reporting to the Dean for the Arts and Humanities Division, with a dotted line reporting relationship to the FAS Dean for Administration and Finance, work with A&H departments, committees, research centers and museums to s trengthen and sustain the overall planning, strategic management, and administrative services of the A&H; i n conjunction with FAS Human Resources, providing divisional leadership for all human resources related matters; ensuring coordination of academic and administrative efforts and resources , i n close coordination with faculty and staff leadership throughout the A&H and FAS. Within this framework of responsibilities, the Administrative Dean for the Arts and Humanities will:

  • Manage the divisional budget on behalf of the Dean for the Arts and Humanities and synchronize financial and physical resource planning, sponsored research, and information technology related to the division's teaching and research activities. Oversee resource allocation across the full range of A&H financial, physical resources, institutional research, IT and HR administrative support functions to ensure that all resources are allocated in support of the Divisional Dean’s key priorities. Provide the Divisional Dean with budgetary parameters within which to evaluate funding requests related to course development, workshops, and other one-time events.

  • Work with the Dean of the A&H to develop plans and procedures to enable collaboration between departments within the division, as well as partnerships with units in other FAS divisions and University schools.

  • Build on the strategic priorities and vision established by the divisional dean, provide leadership on various initiatives in support of the vision and adopt a problem-solving approach to the issues facing departments, centers, and related entities.

  • Provide strong leadership in building a community that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

  • Oversee internal administrative communications within the A&H community and help manage a small office team of 2 exempt and 2 non-exempt staff members.
