  • BA required.

  • 5+ years of experience in admissions required, with a preference in admissions processes, data analysis and enrollment.

  • Extensive travel required. Ability to travel in airplanes/trains (up to 80% time during recruitment season) and work evenings and/or weekends.

  • Ability to drive and valid driver’s license required.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in related fields highly preferred.

  • Knowledge and experience with SLATE, admissions databases and Student Information Systems preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required.

  • Related experience in student services, and/or communications in higher education will be considered.

  • Experience in evaluating international educational credentials helpful.

  • Proven results in implementing successful recruitment and advertising strategies for graduate students, preferably in a diverse institution desired.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications, public speaking, interpersonal and organizational skills with experience in implementing successful education marketing practices.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Ability and willingness to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Ability to identify and develop partnerships with external constituencies, as well as with HDS and University-wide offices and departments.

  • High degree of adaptability and flexibility with busy office and seasonal deadlines and initiatives.

  • Strong and proven commitment to diversity and inclusion initiatives/programs.

Additional Information:Physical Requirements: Must be able to meet moderate physical requirements during travel: pack, lift and carry boxes of recruiting material weighing upwards of 30 lbs.

Reporting to the Director of Admissions, the Associate Director provides day-to-day oversight of admissions and recruitment operations, and directly supervises the Staff Assistant. Working in partnership with the Director, this position leads admissions operations, including the admissions application and enrollment processes for all HDS degree programs (MDiv, MTS, and ThM) and the Special Student program. Manages advertising and all admissions communications, including admissions social media strategy and content. Must lead operations, liaison with team members, colleagues, and HDS/Harvard community members, with professionalism and seriousness of purpose, while maintaining a warm and welcoming manner. Works closely with the Director while communicating well with the rest of the team and colleagues, and reports back to the Director their recommendations for fine-tuning admissions processes, enrollment and marketing efforts, and other initiatives. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and project management skills are required.

Office Operations

  • Supervises Staff Assistant and ensures smooth day-to-day office operations.

  • Provides appropriate phone, email, and front office coverage as needed.

Event Planning and Recruitment

  • Oversees publicity and outreach for the Diversity and Explorations Program (DivEx) and Theological Education Day (TED), the annual admissions fall events. Responsible for managing application and committee review process for DivEx.

  • Plans agenda and engages HDS community in programming for DivEx and TED, with support of HDS admissions team; solicit feedback from visitors in the form of surveys.

  • Travels nationally to represent HDS at graduate fairs, school visits, and conferences to conduct information sessions, and to meet with prospective students, alumni, and faculty.

  • Collaborates with Assistant Director to offer virtual admissions events, and conducts on-campus small-group, individual and phone information sessions throughout the year.

Application Processing

  • Provides leadership to applications processing team to efficiently process all application materials and verify credentials.

  • Personally manages all aspects of application completion, verification and enrollment of a portfolio composed of half of the applicant pool and admitted and incoming class.

  • Responsible for quality assurance of applicant data and data transfers from/to admissions system (Slate).


  • Prepares materials for MDiv and MTS Admissions Committee orientation meeting, and schedules all MDiv and MTS Admissions Committee meetings with faculty and administrators.

  • Evaluates assigned MDiv and MTS applications, and serves as voting member of the MDiv and MTS Admissions Committee.

Communications and Advertising

  • Develops and implements admissions communication plan for prospects, inquirers, applicants, and admitted and incoming students, as well as other constituencies, such as faculty, students, recommendation and referral providers, alumni and friends of HDS.

  • Develops and implements print and online advertising plan.

  • Collaborates with the HDS Office of Communications to provide content for the admissions section of the HDS website, and to promote admissions activities via social media, and other avenues, to ensure consistent messaging.

Data Analysis / Budgets

  • Provides data to Admissions Director via Slate and oversees management of Slate database; provides reports on fall events, annual visitors, application prospects and applicants, seasonally.

  • Prepares reports for the Director on expenses related to travel and major fall events, and other reports as needed.

  • Other duties may be assigned as required to meet the needs of the office and foster the mission of the School.
