ASSISTANT DEAN, DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION (DEI), School of Engineering (SoE), to serve as a strategic partner to the dean and Institute and Community and Equity Office (ICEO) and collaborate with colleagues on the Engineering Council and in MIT central administration. Will work closely with the dean and have broad responsibility for overseeing SoE diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and special projects/priorities. This includes strategic planning leadership, training oversight and program management, priority setting, thought leadership, content knowledge expertise and monitoring, and leading the implementation of plans and initiatives within the SoE.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; at least ten years’ relevant/related experience; demonstrated ability to lead and manage a wide variety of responsibilities in a fast-paced, dynamic organization; demonstrated success implementing diversity initiatives; understanding of the implications of DEI in the workplace; in-depth knowledge of principles, practices, and theories in DEI and social justice; diplomacy and effective interpersonal communication skills; familiarity with student services, pipeline initiatives, and enrollment management practices designed to support the recruitment, retention, and graduation of students of diverse backgrounds; understanding of evolving issues and demographic trends impacting higher education institutions; excellent organizational, project management, active listening, analytical, and written and verbal communications skills; ability to prioritize multiple and often competing demands under deadline pressure, synthesize information from multiple sources, and provide succinct and actionable briefing materials and action plans; strong consultation, presentation, meeting design, and facilitation skills; detail orientation but with ability to view larger policy concerns; ability to innovate and solve complex problems; proven good judgment, tact, and discretion with sensitive/confidential matters; and ability to make effective decisions while working collaboratively with others.
