10+ years of development experience
Proven track record of successful major gifts fundraising, successful gift solicitations, and closes of $1M and above.
Experience working with both alumni and non-alumni constituencies.
Experience working with volunteer leaders.
Experience managing other fundraisers.
Advanced knowledge of fundraising principles and best practices for program, capital, endowment, and annual current-use fundraising.
Ability to work with a team to ensure that engagement of academic partners in development activity is thoughtful and well planned and that academic partners are fully supported in shared development activities through robust prospect strategies, effective briefings, and timely and thoughtful communication of aims and objectives.
Superlative interpersonal and written and oral communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work well with people at all levels of an organization, listen carefully and respond thoughtfully, and influence and persuade others.

Responsible for raising $10M+ annually to support funding priorities of the Harvard Kennedy School.
Develops and implements an annual strategic plan to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward principal gift donors and prospects (rated $5M+) to meet and exceed annual goals for identified funding priorities.
Manages a portfolio of principal gifts prospects by building effective relationships and deeply engaging them in HKS’s mission and priorities with a goal of securing support from each at the $5M+ level.
Provides leadership, support, and guidance to a team of three including a Senior Director, Assistant Director, and Executive Assistant.
Articulates the case for support for HKS as a whole and for a range of the School’s academic centers and programs and keeps abreast of the School’s work and its enduring value.
Contributes to the identification, development, and refinement of compelling gift opportunities to connect principal gift donors’ interests with those priorities.
Serves as a senior advisor to the Dean of the Kennedy School on fundraising related matters, as well as a close colleague and advisor to the Senior Associate Dean of Alumni Relations and Resource Development.
Performs other responsibilities and serve in additional capacities as needed in conformity with the level of the position (with or without accommodation).

The Assistant Dean manages a personal portfolio of 50-75 prospects rated $5M+ through strategic, consistent, personalized engagement and closely collaborates with the dean, faculty, HKS Center leadership, and development staff across Harvard to develop an annual strategic plan focused on securing gifts for the Dean’s top priorities.
The Assistant Dean serves as a member of the Office of Alumni Relations and Development’s senior leadership team. They supervise a team of three, including a Senior Director focused on international principal gifts fundraising, and contribute to discussions related to overall strategy for the fundraising program and efforts to maximize lifetime relationships with and philanthropic support from alumni and friends of HKS. They are responsible for developing an annual strategic plan focused on identifying fundraising targets for current use, endowment, restricted, and unrestricted giving with an emphasis on securing gifts for the Dean’s top priorities. The plan will also outline key initiatives and activities the principal giving team will implement in order to meet fundraising goals. The Assistant Dean will represent the Kennedy School at events, meetings, and off-site presentations and will engage in extensive domestic and foreign travel to meet with prospects and donors.
