Position Description:

Duties & Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities include supervising 10-12 undergraduate interns (hire, orient, train, oversee and assist with coordination of events), triaging student requests, developing, implementing and assessing Center programming and Center-supported events pertaining to women’s and gender issues, facilitating special projects to promote the growth and development of women and femme students, and producing and editing Women’s Center communications and publicity materials. The Harvard College Women’s Center’s Assistant Director will be responsible for a variety of administrative and event-related projects for the office. The work portfolio includes:

Intern Supervision

  • Oversee hiring, training, and ongoing performance evaluation of interns

  • Work with the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Assistant Director for Finance and Administration to create and maintain personnel files, solidify schedules and approve intern payroll

  • Provide guidance and assist in coordination for all student-led center programming affiliate with the Women’s Center including but not limited to weekly Let’s Talk events, Women’s Week, Frosh Rep and Women of Color Collective events, Gender 101 Workshops, and Women’s Cabinet meetings

Student Advising

  • Advise student organization leaders affiliated with the Women’s Cabinet, a collaborative board of student leaders from women-focused undergraduate student organizations

  • Serve as advisor for student leaders of the Women of Color Collective as the Women’s Center’s Department-Sponsored Student Organization (DSSO)

  • Provide programmatic advisement to graduate student program coordinators

Program Management

  • Design, develop, implement, and assess signature campus and university-wide programming including lectures, workshops, and other collaborative events such as the annual Ann Radcliffe Trust and Peggy Schmertzler Leadership Lectures

  • Work independently and closely with students on the creation and implementation of Women’s Center campus wide events (Women’s Week)

  • Develop and implement semester based “Smart Cookies” Women in STEM programming

  • Work with WiSTEM coordinator to provide assistance with the Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (WiSTEM) mentorship program

Communications Strategy and Development

  • Oversee and manage branding including online communications and marketing, website, e-mail, weekly newsletter, and various social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)

  • Design, produce, and publish annual reports and update brochures and other publications

Financial Oversight

  • Monitor and administer annual operating budget of $20K for student organization grants and facilitate the Ann Radcliffe Trust grant process (2-3 rounds per year)

  • Monitor annual events and programming budget of $42K which includes Women’s Week Programming, Women of Color Collective and First Year Representative programs, the Let’s Talk series, Women’s Cabinet, and other campus-based work.

Other Responsibilities

  • Represent the Women’s Center at relevant campus and community events as needed

  • Work collaboratively with the Harvard College Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion team which includes the Office of BGLTQ Student Life and the Harvard Foundation for Race and Intercultural Relations

  • Handle additional items as determined by Women’s Center Director
