Position Description

The Department of Astronomy seeks to appoint a tenure-track professor in any subfield of Astronomy and Astrophysics. The appointment is expected to begin in July 2024. The person hired will join the Department of Astronomy and the Harvard College Observatory as part of the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard &Smithsonian. The tenure-track professor will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, for conducting a vibrant and collaborative research program, for the advising and mentorship of junior scientists, and for contributing broadly to the scientific atmosphere of our department and the CfA. Basic Qualifications

Doctorate or terminal degree in Astronomy, Physics, or related discipline required by the time the appointment begins.

Additional Qualifications

Demonstrated strong commitment to teaching, advising, and broadening institutional diversity is desired.

  6. Names and contact information of 3-5 referees, who will be asked by a system-generated email to upload a letter of recommendation once the candidate’s application has been submitted. Three letters of recommendation are required, and the application is considered complete only when at least three letters have been received. At least one letter must come from someone who has not served as the candidate’s undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral advisor.

Applicants facing extenuating circumstances due to the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine may contact the search co-chairs to request an extension to the deadline. The length of the approved extension will depend on the need but will not exceed two weeks beyond the original deadline.
