Position Description
The Department of Astronomy seeks to appoint a tenure-track professor in any subfield of Astronomy and Astrophysics. The appointment is expected to begin in July 2025. The person hired will join the Department of Astronomy and the Harvard College Observatory as part of the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian. The tenure-track professor will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, for conducting a vibrant and impactful research program, for the advising and mentorship of junior scientists, and for contributing broadly to the scientific atmosphere and inclusive climate of our department and the CfA.
Basic Qualifications
Doctorate or terminal degree in Astronomy, Physics, or related discipline required by the time the appointment begins.
Additional Qualifications
Demonstrated strong record of, or commitment to, teaching, advising, and service is desired.

Teaching/advising statement (describing teaching philosophy and practices as well as their approach to creating a learning environment in which students are encouraged to ask questions and share their ideas.)
Research statement
Service Statement describing efforts to strengthen academic communities, e.g., the candidate’s department, institution, and/or professional societies.
Names and contact information of 3-5 referees, who will be asked by a system-generated email to upload a letter of recommendation once the candidate’s application has been submitted. Three letters of recommendation are required, and the application is considered complete only when at least three letters have been received. At least one letter must come from someone who has not served as the candidate’s undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral advisor.
