Job Description: The Social Sciences Division of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences of Lesley University is seeking a faculty member to teach in the discipline of sociology at the rank of assistant professor (full-time, 9-month). We seek a sociologist who has expertise in social movements, collective action, and structural inequality. Research and teaching experience with intersectional, culturally competent, social justice frameworks is preferred as is evidence of community-engaged scholarship and/or pedagogies. Preference will be given to candidates who can contribute to the continued growth of the Social Sciences Division, its Sociology & Social Change program, its newly revised minor in Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies as well as a new interdisciplinary minor in Africana Studies. Essential Functions: The successful candidate will teach three or four courses per semester (7 courses per academic year) and should be flexible in terms of course delivery models (e.g., face-to-face, hybrid, online) in teaching and course development. A strong commitment to teaching, and the ability to teach courses from introductory undergraduate college level to senior level is required. Further, the successful candidate will have experience working with diverse students and evidence of inclusive teaching. In addition to teaching, faculty members will advise students, participate in curriculum development, engage in academic scholarship, serve on appropriate college and university committees, and participate in recruitment and other division activities. Requirements: - A PhD in Sociology by June 30, 2019. - A record of successful teaching at the undergraduate level. - Ability to teach courses from introductory undergraduate college level to senior level. - Demonstrable engagement in academic scholarship. - A well-developed research agenda. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Must be authorized to work in the United States; if you hold a visa, your visa status must allow you to work at Lesley University.
