    Job Description

PRACTICE SCHOOL STATION DIRECTOR, Chemical Engineering (ChemE), to coordinate and lead Chemical Engineering Practice School (https://cheme.mit.edu/academics/practice-school/) engagement at companies hosting teams of graduate-level MIT students pursuing master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering Practice (M.S.CEP). Students are engaged at the companies as technical consultants for projects selected by the station steering committee in consultation with the station director. Will lead and educate students in being successful consultants. Responsibilities include engaging and leading the full lifecycle of planning and running assigned Practice School station(s); developing relationships and working with host companies, their point person/people, and steering committee on developing student projects, practice school logistics, and student hosting requirements; serving as coach/mentor/teacher for students; ensuring that students discover gaps between their performance levels, the host company’s standards, and MIT standards; ensuring that students take immediate actions to practice new behaviors to close possible gaps; planning and organizing a complete experience for host company representatives and students; developing and implementing flexible, authentic, and engaging teaching and learning methods and working with people from diverse backgrounds; and ensuring that students learn the professional competencies of successful engineers.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: seven years’ industry experience as an engineer, consultant, or senior manager, preferably in project management; upper-level training (M.S. or Ph.D. preferred) in chemical engineering or another engineering discipline; strong communication and interpersonal skills for facilitating constructive, supportive learning environments; experience mentoring/guiding individuals and teams through complex value-adding projects and providing actionable feedback; willingness and ability to engage and work cooperatively with host company sponsors and management teams; strong organizational skills; and ability to develop solutions and manage unforeseen changes in work location and students.
