COMPARATIVE PATHOLOGIST/ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF COMPARATIVE PATHOLOGY, Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM), to direct DCM’s efforts to provide diagnostic and research pathology support and train the next generation of comparative medicine professionals in pathology. Will join twelve other veterinarians in fulfilling DCM’s mission to provide the very best in animal care and collaborative research support; and be an integral part of an established comparative medicine training program for veterinarians and veterinary students in research, laboratory medicine, and comparative pathology. Responsibilities include collaborating with MIT research investigators to provide comparative pathology expertise and support; providing diagnostic pathology support, including actively participating in and directing/mentoring the activities of employees/trainees in providing necropsy and histopathology support; and leading and developing comparative pathology training activities for DCM’s veterinarian postdoctoral fellows who are pursuing formal training in research, comparative pathology and/or laboratory animal medicine. Opportunities exist to pursue independent and/or collaborative research and sponsored funding beyond comparative pathology collaborations, with the predominant research areas being cancer and neurocognitive research, and to teach undergraduate/graduate courses. DCM (https://comp-med.mit.edu/home) serves as the primary resource for the care, development, and refinement of animal models at MIT. It is tasked with caring for a variety of species, including mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, swine, zebrafish, zebra finches, tree shrews, marmosets and macaques, and includes transgenic (mouse and nonhuman primate) and germ-free facilities.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: DVM or equivalent degree from an AVMA-listed veterinary school. PREFERRED: formal training in comparative pathology with diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Pathology (ACVP) or European College of Veterinary Pathology (ECVP); experience with rodent phenotyping and nonhuman primate pathology; and experience collaborating with researchers and mentoring students.
