General knowledge of collection databases and programs and functioning of biodiversity collections. Specialized knowledge could include background in mammal identification, taxonomy, systematics, and anatomy. Good knowledge of world geography necessary. This position requires travel to Bedford, MA and Cambridge, MA; valid driver’s license preferred.Additional Information:The Curatorial Assistant will be trained to use digital micro and macro photography, and x-ray equipment (digital x-ray and Micro-CT scanner).

This position is responsible for regular collection maintenance such as cataloging, shelving specimens, organizing the collection, maintaining workspaces and paperwork, and rare and/or specialized collection maintenance. Enters, edits, and proofs data in the collection database. Oversees some loan process, which include: invoicing, packing, and shipping methods. Performs advanced digital imaging of specimens (Radiography, Computerized Tomography). Responds to technical inquiries by students and visitors in relation to the collection, and gives tours of the collection. Researches proper curation and collection problems. Completes in-depth identification of specimens. Responsible for all visual documentation of collection (photography). Responsible for other related job duties. May oversee the work of other staff and student employees.
