DATA ANALYST 1, Political Science, to join a team that is at the forefront of leveraging advanced computational techniques to deepen our understanding of politics; work to assist in the development of data pipelines, data models, and data operations infrastructure; employ a variety of technical tools to design and improve the LobbyView database; and help researchers and technical staff solve the most challenging computational problems in social science research and establish pipelines for queries and analyses, with other forays into relevant technical areas as time and curiosity allows.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related technical domain, or in a social science field with relevant portfolio/experience; experience with SQL databases, especially PostgreSQL, encompassing query writing, server management, and database optimization; experience with Python, especially familiarity with standard web scraping, data science, and concurrent processing libraries; experience using and/or writing REST APIs; experience with Git or analogous version control systems; robust written and oral communication skills; and a minimum of one year of relevant experience in analyzing and modeling data sets and creating informative reports and dashboards. PREFERRED: A public portfolio and/or extracurricular interest in technical projects (e.g. hobby projects, open-source contributions, competitive coding, etc); experience with modern web development, such as applied experience with TypeScript; experience with other modern programming languages, especially R; experience with modern data engineering tools, such as DuckDB, Dagster, and dbt; experience with exploratory data analysis, data visualization, and dashboarding; experience with Unix/Linux-based operating systems, including bash shell scripting and/or Linux system administration best practices; experience with cloud technologies, especially AWS.
