Apply now to work in the Oral Health Division of the Cambridge Public Health Department. Become a Community Health Dental Hygienist. Join our Cambridge Healthy Smiles Program team of dental hygienists. Help raise community and school awareness about the importance of oral health to overall health. The per diem position has two responsibilities.

Our Tuesday screening work is during school hours and follows the Cambridge Public School calendar. The per diem Community Health Dental Hygienist will provide dental screenings, record in a database of students and screening results, and coordinate evaluation efforts. Guiding children about oral health care as program needs.

Our Community Outreach work is growing. We are looking for a self-starter who wants to take their community health passion and make a difference. We are here to support you. Our hygienists are reaching out to educate the underserved populations about preventative dental care. We are working with pregnant and new mothers, families, and seniors. Work with the division manager to find the population you would like to serve. These are flexible hours.

Job Purpose:

Provide dental screenings, recording a database of students and screening results, and coordinating evaluation efforts. Provide training for children about oral health care as program needs. Sufficient mobility to negotiate schools. Ability to enter data into a computer iPad and to stand, lean forward and perform dental screenings for extended periods of time. Visual and auditory capabilities sufficient enough to recognize and respond to children's needs. Sufficient speech abilities to communicate information to children, teachers, and coworkers during dental screenings. Ability to work in a demanding and busy environment; Ability to respond appropriately to children's needs, prioritize responsibilities; Ability to manage multiple responsibilities at one time and to correctly communicate information and complete forms on paper and on computer iPad. Ability to learn the process of creating a new community health outreach program including surveys, resource, and slideshow creation.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Experience teaching school aged children oral health instruction; experience in public health or community setting strongly preferred

  • Experience in community oral health outreach experience preferred.

  • Fluent in Spanish, Portuguese or Haitian Creole preferred.

  • Licensure: Massachusetts Dental Hygiene License with:

  • Certifications: Maintains current American Heart Association OR Red Cross Basic Life Support Certification required
