DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION (DEI) PROGRAM DIRECTOR, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), to create, execute, and manage full-scale DEI strategic and operational plans that meet the needs of MIT’s largest academic department (https://www.eecs.mit.edu/about-us) . EECS is comprised of three overlapping academic units and resides within the School of Engineering (SOE) and Schwarzman College of Computing (SCC). Will design, lead, and manage the implementation and assessment of outreach and training activities and collaborate on developing and managing tools/resources and a range of solutions to advance an inclusive culture; recommend policy, identify resources, and play a lead role in implementing actions in consultation with faculty, students, and staff; and work with department leadership to ensure that programs are of high quality, informed by best practices, and align with MIT, SOE, SCC, and Vice President for Research office DEI strategic action plans.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; seven years’ DEI program management experience; track record of leading DEI efforts in higher education; understanding of social justice, the dynamics of power and privilege, and social identities; evidence of taking strategic and tactical approaches to DEI and scaling projects to achieve maximum impact; experience with successful change and project management; experience working with and coordinating feedback from multiple stakeholders to create and execute DEI-related programs, events, and learning opportunities; knowledge and/or experience with fund-raising (especially writing proposals) for DEI programs/activities; knowledge of federal, state, and local laws/regulations/guidelines related to affirmative action and civil rights enforcement; knowledge of community organizing; ability to develop close working relationships with departmental leadership and others in DEI roles across MIT. PREFERRED: advanced degree with coursework in higher education administration, human resources, social justice, or cultural diversity.
