The Institute honors the work of Charles Hamilton Houston, one of the 20th century’s most important legal scholars and litigators. As the Vice Dean of Howard Law School, Houston engineered the multi-year legal strategy that led to the unanimous 1954 Supreme Court decision, Brown v. Board of Education, repudiating the doctrine of “separate but equal” schools for black and white children. By facilitating a dialogue between scholars and practitioners, CHHI seeks to continue Houston’s unfinished work. Our long-term goal is to ensure that every member of our society enjoys equal access to the rights, responsibilities and privileges of membership in the United States.CHHI’s current policy initiatives include research and advocacy designed to identify and ameliorate structural inequalities in the educational system; to promote safety and healing in schools and communities; and to assess and reform the role of the prosecutor in our criminal justice system. More information about CHHI is available at https://charleshamiltonhouston.org/about/.CHHI seeks a fellow to collaborate with the faculty director on research and advocacy to advance its reform initiatives in the areas of educational equity, including race and gender equity; safety and healing; and prosecutorial reform. The fellow will conduct substantial research and writing on legal and policy questions; cultivate partnerships with relevant advocacy organizations, schools, and government agencies around the country; and conduct and manage outreach to local students. The fellows will assist with public events, such as conferences and talks, hosted by the Institute, and community outreach.School/Unit:Harvard Law School EEO Statement:We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, gender identity, sexual orientation or any other characteristic protected by law.
