LEAD LABORATORY TECHNICAL INSTRUCTOR, ADVANCED MATERIALS MACHINES, New Engineering Education Transformation (NEET), to assume a hands-on role responsible for tactical execution and operational oversight of all the project-centric aspects of the Advanced Materials Machines thread, as part of an undergraduate B.S. degree in engineering. Will assist students with projects and designing and making their own new advanced materials machines, e.g., additive manufacturing, powder processing across a range of materials, and enabling testing and experiments; and teach, train, and mentor a diverse group of students using fabrication facilities. Courses involve a variety of prototyping and production techniques including machining, powder processing, casting, injection molding, thermoforming, waterjet cutting, 3D printing, materials characterization, and metrology. Will support faculty lectures by creating and delivering process demonstrations, writing and revising lab assignments, and holding classroom-based tutorial sessions and interactive design reviews guiding the students in process planning and CAD/CAM techniques; grade assignments including physical prototypes, written responses, and process data; work closely with others to maintain the shop’s operations; organize and deliver training on equipment operation and shop safety; and assist students performing research-oriented work in the shop.
REQUIRED: an M.S. degree (Ph.D. desirable) in mechanical engineering, materials science, manufacturing, or a related field; at least five years of hands-on experience with fabrication; in-depth knowledge of machining, injection molding, casting, welding, thermoforming, waterjet cutting, 3D printing, metrology, and professional CAD/CAM software; ability to demonstrate and teach; strong design skills; keen safety awareness; excellent communication skills; ability to handle multiple tasks; and comfort working with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff in a fast-paced environment.
