LEAD LABORATORY TECHNICAL INSTRUCTOR, LOW CARBON ENERGY SYSTEMS, New Engineering Education Transformation (NEET), to assist students in designing and making low-carbon energy systems (LCES) to provide energy and combat climate change. This thread emphasizes not just ways of making low-carbon energy, but also distribution, integration into an aging grid, and socio-economic aspects of different energy mixes. Will provide laboratory instruction in the thread’s undergraduate courses and subjects and technical instruction, training, and supervision in related teaching and research laboratories; work with faculty, lecturers, teaching assistants, and students as a member of the teaching staff including teaching undergraduate laboratory classes, introductory lectures, and hands-on experiments; and work collaboratively with experts involved in coaching and training students on personal and interpersonal skills. Other responsibilities include lab safety, maintaining and repairing equipment (including computational resources), grading assignments, and assisting in the day-to-day operation of the shared laboratories as needed.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: a Ph.D. in engineering (preferably nuclear science and engineering, civil and environmental engineering, mechanical engineering or related field) and five years of relevant post-Ph.D. experience or a master’s in the engineering disciplines noted and eight years of relevant experience; expertise in one or more areas related to LCES, i.e., baseload electrical generation (hydroelectric or nuclear power); intermittent renewable energy generation (solar or wind power); integration of multiple energy forms on a grid; economic and/or network modeling; analog electronics, and rapid prototyping; expertise in experimental techniques and engineering analysis; and experience managing in a student lab and project environment.
