Position Description
The Jaroslaw and Nadia Mihaychuk Postdoctoral Fellowship in Ukrainian Studies is granted to promising junior scholars to support significant, innovative research on topics pertaining to Ukraine. This fellowship is designed to bring early-career scholars to Harvard University for one academic year of focused, independent research. Fellows enjoy access to Harvard’s vast research resources and vibrant intellectual environment.
12-months, full-time, in-residence at Harvard from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2026
Stipend of 5,900 USD per month
Roundtrip plane/rail travel to Boston
Eligible for Harvard’s employee benefits, including subsidized health insurance
Full access to Harvard’s vast libraries and archives
Access to shared office space
Basic Qualifications
Fellowships from the Ukrainian Research Institute support significant, innovative, independent research on topics pertaining to Ukrainian history, culture, and society while in residence at Harvard University.
Applicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent (Candidate of Sciences, кандидат наук) in the humanities and social sciences. Current doctoral candidates whose doctoral degree will be awarded before July 1 of the current year are also eligible to apply.
This fellowship is for early-career scholars who received their doctoral degree no more than seven years prior to the fellowship start date.
Additional Qualifications
Scholars who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing knowledge of Ukraine through teaching, research, and publication are encouraged to apply.
Citizens of all countries are welcome.
Non-US applicants must be eligible to receive and maintain a short-term J-1 visa to carry out research in residence at Harvard supported by a fellowship from HURI .
