POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE)-Concrete Sustainability Hub (CSHub) (https://cshub.mit.edu/) , to conduct research, create tools, develop educational materials, and participate in implementation projects on life cycle assessment (LCA), life cycle cost analysis (LCCA), and asset management of pavements and pavement networks. One research topic will focus on developing streamlined LCA and LCCA methodologies that can be used to support pavement design, with an emphasis on incorporating uncertainty into the methods. Another topic will revolve around the development of efficient methods to capture characteristics of urban areas using GIS data to quantify the impacts of pavement reflectivity on the urban heat island effect and global warming potential. Other activities will include developing software tools, case studies, and educational materials for practitioners who would use these approaches to support design, maintenance, and asset management decisions. This will partially be accomplished through implementation projects with practitioners. Will collaborate and interact with CSHub faculty, research staff, postdoctoral associates, graduate students, and research sponsors and implementation partners.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: a Ph.D., preferably in an engineering or scientific discipline. Expertise in life cycle assessment, life cycle cost analysis, statistics, data science, and pavement engineering is particularly desired. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate research results in the form of juried research journal articles and oral presentations is a must. Experience working with pavement engineers and creating probabilistic software tools is also desirable. Job #19651 Travel to visit research and implementation partners (approximately five trips per year) and present research at conferences will also be required.5/25/21
