POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering (ChemE)-Jensen Group, to work in the cross-disciplinary area of machine learning for materials. This work will involve the application of machine learning methods to predicting reaction pathways for synthesis of energetic material precursors, building upon advances in that area relevant to the pharmaceutical industry. The work is expected to be published in open literature journals. Will work in close collaboration with experts in computational chemistry, computational physics, computer science, and chemical engineering. Machine learning and data science efforts have made wide impact in modern chemistry research, but the study of propellants and explosives has not seen significant contribution from work leveraging those techniques.
REQUIRED: a Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, biochemistry, materials science, computer science, chemical engineering, or mechanical engineering; a track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals or conference proceedings; and the ability to listen, analyze, and judge different opinions and make decisions effectively and objectively. Must have significant programming experience in one of the following languages: Python, Fortran, C, C++, or Java. Experience with at least one of the following is preferred: Unix/Linux, random forests, graph theory, neural networks (Keras/TensorFlow), git, bash/shell scripting, parallel programming (MPI/OpenMP), organic chemistry, and energetic materials. Senior researchers are encouraged to apply for this position. Job #16193U.S. citizenship is preferred, but not required. In addition to applying online via the HR website, please also send a C.V. to Brian Barnes at firstname.lastname@example.org. Must be able to provide at least two letters of recommendation upon request. The preferred start date is October 1, 2018, or later, with some flexibility to accommodate availability. 6/21/18
