PRE-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW, Economics (multiple openings), to join the research team of Professor Amy Finkelstein. Will work on all stages of empirical research in health economics. Examples of the types of projects involved include understanding the causes and consequences of large-scale geographic variation in healthcare spending (e.g., http://economics.mit.edu/files/11525), analysis of market failures and government intervention in health insurance markets (e.g., http://economics.mit.edu/files/10388), and studying performance and allocation in the U.S. healthcare sector (e.g., http://economics.mit.edu/files/11271). Responsibilities include working with data sets, cleaning and running checks to spot errors, and generally preparing data for analysis; producing regular reports on implementation progress and identifying any threats to the scientific validity of ongoing studies; communicating with research partners about data requests and analysis; assisting with onboarding new staff and maintaining project documentation; and assisting with literature reviews, institutional review board applications, and preparation of academic papers.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: at least two years of research experience (which may include research experience gained as an undergraduate) and a bachelor’s degree that includes significant training in economics and demonstrated success in coursework in statistics, mathematics, and econometrics.
