Position Description
The Department of the Classics seeks applications for a Preceptor in Modern Greek beginning July 1, 2024. This is a three-year position, renewable for an additional term of up to five years (eight years in total), contingent on performance, enrollments, curricular need, position availability, and divisional dean authorization. The preceptor is expected to offer language classes and to undertake administrative responsibilities in the Program of Modern Greek Studies. The successful applicant should be well versed in the issues of teaching Modern Greek as a foreign language, have experience in teaching all levels of the language, have native or near native proficiency in Modern Greek, and must be able to conduct upper-level courses in Modern Greek. Specialization in Modern Greek literature, linguistics, and culture, or Modern Greek intellectual history and in teaching Modern Greek as a second language is highly desirable. A strong doctoral record is preferred.
Basic Qualifications
Experience in teaching all levels of the language and the ability to conduct upper-level courses in Modern Greek are required. Native or near native proficiency in Modern Greek is also required.
Additional Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Modern Greek, Classics, or a related discipline is preferred.
