The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard seeks applications for a Preceptor in Molecular and Cellular Biology who will primarily be responsible for supporting intermediate-level courses that cover topics in molecular and cellular biology. The courses emphasize experimental methods and problem solving. The Preceptor will be responsible for designing and supervising the discussion section and laboratory components, working with faculty to prepare assessments of student learning, writing data analysis and problem solving questions, and supporting key components of the courses, such as supervising and training teaching fellows; acting as primary liaison between instructional staff and the laboratory support group; and maintaining assessment records. There will also be an opportunity to give lectures in the course. Additionally, the Preceptor will be expected to contribute to other curricular activities in the Department, and coordinate with faculty to develop other innovative teaching materials.
The appointment is expected to begin on August 1, 2019 or as soon as feasible. The preceptorship, co-reporting to the lead faculty instructors and the Department Chair, is a non-ladder teaching position. The initial appointment is for one year, renewable on a yearly basis for up to eight years, contingent upon performance, enrollments, and curricular need.
Doctorate in a Life Sciences field with demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate students in science.
Proven expertise in molecular biology and cell biology. Superior organizational, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to lead and train teaching fellows and to manage relationships with undergraduate students. Experience in designing problem sets and laboratory exercises strongly preferred.
