Proficiency with Windows 7, Microsoft Excel, and intermediate computer skills are also required. Additional Qualifications:The successful candidate must be detail oriented, should have strong organizational skills, and be able to independently manage his/her time. Experience with programming, high throughput robotics, DNA sequencing, DNA transformations, plasmid cloning, and pairwise sequencing analysis are a plus. Prior experience with molecular biology software (BLAST, Vector NTI, primer design), LIMS systems, and prior work experience in a lab setting is preferred. Demonstrated abilities in basic laboratory techniques helpful, but not required. Appropriate communication and team skills are required. Working Conditions: Will be required to lift, move and transport related laboratory equipment and samples. Will be required to work with robotic systems and ultra-low temperature freezers.Additional Information:This is a Term position, one year from hire date with the possibility of yearly renewal.

35 hrs. per week / 12:00 - 8:00 pm

Department:Biological Chemistry & Molecular PharmacologyPre-Employment Screening:Identity Job Function:Research Duties & Responsibilities:The primary duties of Research Assistant I will include the retrieval, arraying, culturing and distribution of plasmid clones as well as analysis of sequencing data to validate sample identity. The incumbent will also be involved in the preparation of DNA samples for sequencing reactions, operation, and maintenance of high-throughput robotics and sequencing instruments. Will perform data entry in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and maintain a detailed lab notebook.
