2 years of college level coursework/training in biology or closely related field is required.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in biology or closely related field is required as is two years’ related work experience in a biological research laboratory.
Skills and experience with culturing human pluripotent stem cells including maintenance, expansion and lineage differentiation and performing mouse studies is strongly preferred.
Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, strong communication skills, and computer experience are required.
This is a grant-funded two-year term position with the strong possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and the continued availability of funding. Seeking candidates who are able to see this project through to completion
Some holiday and weekend coverage will be required.
May be required to work with a variety of hazardous materials.

The research assistant is expected to independently collect and record experimental data and update written protocols and methods based on findings. Other job duties may include laboratory maintenance (including cleaning equipment), monitoring/ordering supplies, and keeping inventory of laboratory samples.

The research assistant will be responsible for supporting in vivo and in vitro studies focused on studying the cells derived from in vitro differentiation of stem cells towards pancreatic beta cells and support experiments designed to find novel regulators of beta cell maturation and insulin secretion. Research methods used include: assisting with tissue culture in the context of directed differentiation of stem cells into pancreatic beta cells, mouse islet preparations, asses beta cell functionality in vivo and in vitro via glucose tolerance testing (GTT), glucose stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) using ELISA assays and analyze cellular gene expression via immunohistochemistry, FACS, and RNASeq.
