Experience using careful attention to detail preferred; Strong organizational and communication skills preferred; Experience following directions while using initiative to identify and follow through on project issues preferred; Experience using discretion with handling confidential and sensitive information preferred

Department:NutritionPre-Employment Screening:Identity Job Function:Research Duties & Responsibilities:The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health's Department of Nutrition—the first of its kind in any medical or health center worldwide—has a long and respected history, both nationally and internationally. Since its founding in 1942, the Department has made significant contributions toward an understanding of biological mechanisms underlying the effects of nutrition metabolism and health. These include the roles of diet and lifestyle—and their interactions with genetic factors—in the cause and prevention of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, reproductive disorders, and other health conditions. The department has worked to more effectively translate these discoveries into interventions benefiting communities and vulnerable populations; and has made a major impact on public health policies in the U.S. and around the world.

The Research Assistant will assist the Project Manager and the Data Manager for the Communities for Healthy Living Intervention Study with a range of study logistics.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • In collaboration with the Project Manager, develop and implement strategies to recruit research participants. This includes verifying subject inclusion/exclusion criteria, describing the study to participants and answer questions, and collect informed consent and research data carefully following protocols and scripts

  • Work with Project Manager and Site Coordinators to administer research surveys to participants both online and in-person

  • Assist with distribution of study related materials, such as health campaign materials, recruitment flyers, etc.

  • Document survey distribution and completion. Make regular updates on the status of survey completion to Project Manager and Principle Investigator

  • Complete all necessary paperwork and data documentation

  • Assist with data entry and preparing data for analysis

  • Contribute to a positive experience for participants and community partners

  • Attend all Research Team meetings and maintain accurate and detailed meeting minutes

  • Attend other Project meetings (including off-site) as needed

  • Work as an effective and positive project team member, where high levels of collaboration with research team members and community partners is expected

  • Contribute to the teamwork within and between Departments, which included regularly attending and participating in meetings

  • Other duties as assigned

PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term appointment of one year from the date of hire, with the possibility for extension.

PLEASE NOTE: Travel is required about 30% of the time for this position, between the various community center sites across the Boston area.
