The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University invites applications for a Research Assistant position in the Bioinspired Therapeutics & Diagnostics platform. The mission of the Wyss Institute is to discover the engineering principles that Nature uses to build living things; to pursue the high-risk research that is fundamental to advance this effort; and to harness these insights to create biologically-inspired materials and devices to advance human health and improve the environment – thereby revolutionizing clinical medicine and creating a more sustainable world. The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering is seeking a motivated individual to fill a research position in microbiology and mass spectrometry. The candidate will be part of a multidiscipline team working on developing a number of state-of-the-art processes involving the capture and identification of pathogens from samples. The candidate will be responsible for the developing methods using mass spectrometry to identify these pathological samples (e.g., laboratory generated and clinical samples). The project will involve testing multiple mass spectrometry platforms with a focus on MALDI, to identify the captured pathogenic material and generate pathogen specific profiles for algorithm development. The person filling this position will have the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of additional experimental techniques for sample preparation, including molecular biology, protein characterization, and infection diagnostic development.
